HIDEAWAY BED sa SOFA BED x FOLDAWAY BED x MURPHY BED xx BED xx FURNITURE Three bedrooms to build: (1) Gazebo bed frame and canopy. (2) Frilly Murphy bed hidden behind arc of curtains. (3) Soft-office features fabric covered bed frame and shelves, plus stationary and swiveling wall tables. Plans are available for a hideaway bedroom. Box unit, 3x3x8 ft., contains a 6 ft. fold-down bed, closet space and dresser drawers. Photo and text suggest two ways to turn a guest room into a den that can still be used as a guest room. Built-in unit in second room consists of floor-to-ceiling book shelves with hideaway storage for a single rollaway bed. Plans can be ordered for built-in. Two styles of foldaway beds you can build. (1) Single bed frame folds lengthwise against the wall, extending only 9" into the room when closed. Top of unit has open display shelves. Fold-out supports for bed platform include bins for storage. (2) Fold-down double-bed stores in a 16" deep recess. A ballast box is built into the platform. When closed, a work table folds down from the front. Swing-down Murphy bed is enclosed behind a wall of elegant frame-and-panel doors which also conceal two wardrobes or closets. A 15" deep cabinet (6-ft. wide x 5-ft. high) with frame-and-panel front is actually a fold-down bed. Est. cost: $600 plus mattress. Two designs for hideaway beds. (1) Sofa or couch with wood slat back and what appears to be a solid wood seat (covered with removable cusions). However, by pulling on the front of the seat, every other board pulls out to double the width of the couch seat and provide a slatted frame for a mattress. Contemporary style is 82" long and built of any clear hardwood. (2) A settle. Giving the appearance of a narrow bench with a tall back, the back actually drops down to become a bed. The seat of the settle lifts up to store blankets and pillows for the bed. Unit shown is 79" tall and 60" wide and comes out from the wall a maximum of only 28" at the base and 12 " in the tall back.
