AVAILABILITY:  Eight copies are currently produced. Subscriptions available for $400 per year from Parmly Billings Library. Both index and corresponding copies of the newspapers are available for public use in the library of Eastern Montana College.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index includes all Montana related articles appearing in the Billings Gazette. It includes obituaries, editorials, book reviews on books about Montana, personalities, hobbies, artists, concerts and all public events that would be of interest to the people of Montana. Routine articles which include important speakers, biographical material, 50th anniversaries or more, state tournaments...etc. are also included in the index. Omitted from the index are routine crime reports, routine court reports, routine accident reports (fatalities ARE listed under the name of the victim), routine fire reports, religious news, marriages, scholarships and awards, club news, sports news and routine statistical reports.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  Each entry consists of the subject heading, headline and citation (month, day, year, page and column). All obituaries are listed under the subject heading DEATHS followed by the names of the persons in alphabetical order. Output is all upper case letters on computer paper, with one entry per line. Subject headings often have a geographic subdivision appended to them. MONT=Montana; BLGS=Billings; BZMN=Bozeman; etc.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 60 pages per monthly index. 671 pages/yr.
