REPORT NO:  1107A Previous Report (1106A)  |  Next Report (1107B)
NEWSPAPERS INDEXED:
  • PALLADIUM OF LIBERTY Morristown NJ 1806-1810;1817-1821;1822;1824-1827
COMPILER:  Barbara Hoskins
LOCATION or PUBLISHER: JOINT FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF MORRISTOWN & MORRIS TOWNSHIP
1 Miller Rd
Morristown NJ 07960
Telephone: (201) 538-6161
AVAILABILITY:  Only two copies of this book-form index exist. They must be used in the Morristown Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Since we use the index primarily for genealogy and local history purposes, we emphasize personal names and place names along with subjcts. Obituaries, which were rare in early papers, deaths and marriage records are always included. Some state and national news is also included. The indexes change with the period of the paper. The 1870's and 1880's have all businesses listed, along with churches, ministers, deaths and marriages. NOTE: The library also has an index to THE GENUS OF LIBERTY, the predecessor to the PALLADIUM OF LIBERTY. However, it is an index to the microcard copies of the paper, rather than to the date of the paper itself. Therefore, it does not qualify for inclusion as a newspaper index.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book-form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. Arrangement is alphabetical with both subjects and personal names in the same listing. Entries are brief, usually consisting of only the personal name or subject, followed by the month, day, year and page where thee article appeared. The small letter "d" or the word "obit" is used in some periods to indicate death notices.
