For the period 1927-1933, the index is in the form of typed sheets. The originals are located at the Ohio Historical Society, but they have been microfilmed and copies of the microfilm are located in the Public Library of Columbus & Franklin County (96 S. Grant St, Columbus, OH 43215). For the period 1934-1939, the index was typeset and published in a limited edition by the WPA. Copies of the published indexes are located at both the Ohio Historical Society and the Public Library of Columbus & Franklin County.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  WPA indexes in Ohio tend to be quite comprehensive.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The index was intended to be issued in annual volumes. Printed and bound volumes for the years 1934-1939 were complete before the project ended. Typed annual indexes, made in preparation for typesetting and publishing, were produced for the years 1927-1933. These have been microfilmed and made available by the Ohio Historical Society. These book form indexes are arranged in alphabetical order with both subjects and personal names interfiled. Within each subject, the entries are in chronological order. Each entry consists of a brief description of the article, followed by the month, day, page and column where the article appeared. For the period 1913-1926 and 1940, the index is in the form of 4x6 inch cards. The cards are kept together by year. Within each year they are arranged in alphabetical order by subject or personal name. Each card begins with the citation at the top (month, day, page, column, and year), followed by the subject or personal name and then followed by a brief description of the article. The name in the lower right hand corner of the card is most probably the name of the indexer who prepared the card.
