SCOPE OF INDEX: Comprehensive index of local news for towns in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans Counties, with primary emphasis on the town of St.Johnsbury, followed by the immediate surrounding towns of Danville, Lyndon, Burke, Waterford, etc. Prominent local individuals are included as subjects. Omitted from the index is state and national news, club news, births, deaths, and marriages (except for the years 1837-1860 when deaths and marriages were indexed). NOTE: The missing years from 1876-1971 may eventually be indexed, if possible. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order, with both subjects and personal names in the same alphabet. Each card contains several entries. Each entry consists of the headline, followed by the month, day, year, page, and column. |
SIZE OF INDEX: About 100 to 150 entries per month are added to the current index. The entire index occupies about 36 linear inches of cards. |
