AVAILABILITY:  These selected obituaries are part of a larger publication, MISSOURI MISCELLANY, Vol. 2, Sept 1976. Copies are available from the publisher for $5 each. The index is available for public use at the Missouri State Historical Society (Hitt & Lowry Streets, Columbia MO 65201).
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The obituaries included in this volume were selected based primarily upon the age of the deceased and the fact that he or she was one of the earliest settlers of Clay County Missouri. About half of the obituaries concern prominent citizens who had lived in the surrounding counties.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The index is typed, mimeographed, and published as one section in an 8½x11 inch book. Each obituary has been abstracted and arranged in chronological order by the month, day, and year of the newspaper in which the obituary appeared. A surname index to all of the articles (including this obituary index) appears at the end of Vol. 2 of MISSOURI MISCELLANY. Example: No sample of this specific index is available. However, the user is refered to LATHROP REPORT 1309A for an example of a similiar index by the same publisher.
