AVAILABILITY:  35mm microfilm copies are available from the Ohio Historial Society (I-71 at 17th Ave, Columbus OH 43211). Write for prices. Both the indexes on microfilm (covering 1841-1939) and the original printed indexes (covering 1929-1938) are available for use in the Akron-Summit County Public Library and at other major Ohio Libraries.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  A selective index to Akron area news, Ohio news and national news affecting Ohio. Includes news items and opinions (editorials). Births, deaths and marriages are indexed. Omissions include advertisements, announcements of routine meetings (and sports events), commercial publicity, features or columns dealing with non-news topics, lists which appear regularly (e.g. vital statistics, stock market,...), poetry, fiction, reprints, society personals, travel and non-news items such as recipes, household hints, fashions, gardening, hobbies and personal advice columns.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  For each chronological period covered, the index is a single A-Z alphabetical arrangement. Each entry consists of a brief description of the article, usually not the headline. Each citation indicates the date, page and column where the article appeared. Use of the code "ed" denotes an editorial. The complete index occupies 16 reels of 35mm microfilm. The images on the film consist of reproductions of typeset pages which were transcribed from the original handwritten slips of paper.
SIZE OF INDEX:  The index contains 277,549 entries for the years 1929-1937.
