SCOPE OF INDEX: Altoona city and Blair county news is emphasized. State news is indexed only when it affects the city and county topics. Obituaries are indexed in a separate alphabetical section. Historical highlights of the area are indexed. The index includes letters to the editor, editorials, reviews of art exhibits, concerts and theater. Omitted are vital statistics, most advertising, routine social and sporting events and non-news items such as hobbies and homemaking. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: This is a 3 X 5 card file index. The index is divided into three sections: (1) Altoona, (2) Blair County and (3) Pennsylvania. Subject headings are used as subdivisions of these sections. |
SIZE OF INDEX: By mid 1978 there were 1195 cards in the index. Each card can hold up to 9 entries. The cards are typed with the key words of a headline. The citation includes the month, day, year, page and column. |
