SCOPE OF INDEX: Index local news only, primarily for Ashtabula city. National, state and other items are included only when they have a direct effect on this area. Routine council meetings, school board meetings, sports events and similar news items are indexed only when they include some outstanding news as part of the report. Obituaries are indexed in a separate alphabetical file. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: This is a 3x5 card file index. The cards are typed with multiple entries on each card. Each card is filed alphabetically by subject. The entries are headlines or brief descriptions. The citation includes the date and page number. Personal name cards in the obituary file include the name, husband's name of a married woman, last known address, dates of birth and death, and the parent's name (if all that information was given in the article). The citation includes date of paper. |
SIZE OF INDEX: Estimate 2000-3000 entries per month are added to the index file. |
