AVAILABILITY:  Out-of-print. The Press Index was published for only two years, 1973 & 1974. It was originally scheduled to appear as four quarterly issues (paper) plus an annual cumulation (microfilm). The cost was set at $120 per year. The indexes for 1973 & 1974 are available for use in the Atlantic City Public Library. Copies of indexed articles are available for 50 cents each.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Empahsis on local city, county, regional and state news which impacts the Atlantic City area. There is a special industry emphasis on Absecon Island. Included in the index are front page news; editorials; selected letters to the editor; obituaries of local people; major stories on fire, crime or accidents; local tourism; and reviews of local theater and activities. Excluded are sports, minor crime, columns, religious news, routine social news, wire-service news and national news.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A two part index: (1) Thesarus of indexing terms used in that issue and (2) An alphabetical listing of subjects or personal names followed with a chronological listing of related articles. The entry format consists of the citation (mo,dy,yr,sec,pg) followed by a headline or short annotation, followed by two other subject headings or personal names where this same article also appears. The index was delivered in paper form as computer print out pages 11"x15" in size.
