SCOPE OF INDEX: The index covers news of Berea and the surrounding area. Many of the entries concern Berea College and its departments, organizations and functions. Births, deaths and marriages are included. Omitted from the index are state and national news, columns, letters and routine club meetings. Indexing for the last five years is very incomplete and the content of the index has varied over the years. Revisions to the index are being consitered currently. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: This is a 3x5 card file index. Each card has only one entry. The card shows the subject heading, brief description of the article and the citation (month, day, year, page and column). Accompanying photographs are noted. Some of the early entries are still in handwritten form, but will eventually be typed. |
SIZE OF INDEX: The total number of entries is estimated at 50,000. About 1800 new entries are added each year. |
