AVAILABILITY:  This card file index and corresponding newspapers are available for use at the Beaumont Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Indexed are the articles on local, county and state government activities plus special attractions such as concerts, plays, theatre and festivals. Obituaries are indexed along with news about prominent citizens and prominent visitors. An attempt is made to include all articles dealing with the history of Beaumont and Jefferson County. Omitted are vital statistics, regular columns, social events and hobbies.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index. The entry includes a brief description of the article. The citation includes the newspaper, month, day, year, section, page and column. A special code indicates that a picture accompanied the article. The letter B,C or S indicates if the news is local (Beaumont), county or state news. Personal names are used as subdivisions of general subject headings like PROMINENT CITIZENS.
SIZE OF INDEX:  100-150 entries per month are added to the file.
