AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of these 3x5 card files exist. They must be used in the Boston Public Library. Library staff will make simple searches at no charge. Photocopies of index cards are available for $3 per page (about 6 cards).
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The Boston Art Information File emphasizes information about local Boston and New England artists, including obituaries, exhibition reviews, and feature articles on artists. The Quick Reference File Index is a subject guide covering such topics as art thefts, art forms, art characters, art galleries,...etc. Both files include items from newspapers as well as other sources.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The Boston Art Information File is arranged in alphabetical order by name of artist. The art medium of the person is noted along with a brief description of the article being indexed. The citation includes name of source and date. The Quick Reference File Index is arranged in alphabetical order by art subjects. Each entry includes a description of the article being indexed along with the source and date. Both of these files are on 3x5 cards and both make reference to copies of the actual articles which are saved in the vertical files (clipping files) of the Boston Public Library.
