SCOPE OF INDEX: The Missoulian newspaper extensively covers the local news from a ten county area in northwestern Montana. The index includes state and local news including editorials. Beginning in January 1976, the index includes obituaries. Only those national news stories dealing directly with Montana or the Pacific Northwest are included. Only major sports such as state championship games are indexed. Court reports are generally not indexed. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A 3x5 card file index in alphabetical order by subject. There is a separate file of obituaries (started Jan 1976). Each entry consists of the headline plus the citation. There may be up to 3 entries per card. The citation includes a code for the paper, the day, month, year, page and column. Special codes indicate editorials, letters, illustrations, portraits, maps and reviews. |
SIZE OF INDEX: Approximately 750 new entries are added to the index each month. |
