AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Mead Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  All items of local interest, dealing with the city or county of Sheboygan. Most items of statewide interest. Major items dealing with other cities and counties and localities in the state. Omitted from the index are national or international new, routine sports stories, births, obituaries and proper names.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by subject. It is mostly a subject index with a few entries for major individuals, corporations and institutions. The subject headings may be divided geographically into three divisions: those articles dealing with SHEBOYGAN city, those dealing with SHEBOYGAN COUNTY and those dealing with the rest of the state (see example cards). Entries are used to fill up both sides of the card. Each entry consists of the headline plus the citation. The citation indicates the month, day, year and page where the article appeared. The letter "P" indicates a photograph.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 2000 entries per month are added to the current index which occupies about 30 index drawers full of cards.
