AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. Photocopies of individual cards will be made. Tentative plans exist for microfilming the index.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The index includes only material pertaining to Napa County and its residents. The index is primarily a subject index, although personal names are included if a large amount of significant biographical information if given. Excluded from the index are obituaries, marriages, engagements, sports, honor rolls, graduation lists, military news, awards to groups, columns, editorials, letters to the editor, advertisements, club speakers, agendas and routine weather.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index divided into two sections: PERSONAL NAMES and GENERAL SUBJECTS. Within each section, the cards are in alphabetical order by name or subject. Subjects may be subdivided by geography. Entries consist of a very brief description of the article, a code for the newspaper name and the citation (month, day, year, page, and column).
SIZE OF INDEX:  Over 15,000 entries and growing at the rate of about 400 new entries per month.
