AVAILABILITY: Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Palo Alto City Library. |
SCOPE OF INDEX: Indexes information about, taking place in, or affecting Palo Alto. Selective in that coverage excludes the ephemeral (social events) and any news about neighboring communities. Headings are general (eg. CITY COUNCIL is used rather than names of individual members). Does include area news of interest, such as county assessment practices. Basically it is a subject index. There are only a few dozen very newsworthy persons and organizations filed under their own name. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by subject. There are several entries per card. Each entry consists of the headline (sometimes followed by clarifying phrases), followed by the month, day, year, page and column where the article appeared. Accompanying illustrations, portraits or maps are noted. |
SIZE OF INDEX: About 250 to 350 entries (35 to 45 cards) are added to the current index each month. |
