SCOPE OF INDEX:  Indexes material dealing with Iowa, Polk County, and Des Moines. Covers most topics except the material on the sports pages and society pages. Entries are indexed under a few personal names; names of organizations, government agencies; events and holidays; deaths; newspaper column titles; national events when they affect Iowa; and other general subjects.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by subject (or personal name). Within each subject, the cards are arranged in chronological order by year (the year is typed in the upper right hand corner of each card). There are generally several entries per card, arranged in order by month and day. Each entry consists of the headline or a brief description, followed by a code for the newspaper (R or T), the month, day, page, and column.
