SCOPE OF INDEX: The current index (1968- ) is a selective index which focuses on local history. Two earlier indexes have been incorporated into the file. One was done by the Works Progress Administration and the other was compiled by Alexander Shoemaker. They cover the time period of 1868-1952. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order with both subjects and personal names interfiled. Each card consists of the subject heading at the top, followed by the headline or a brief description, then the citation. The citation includes a code for the paper plus the month, day, year, section and page. |
SIZE OF INDEX: About 4,000 cards in the total index. |
