SCOPE OF INDEX:  Local history of Sherman and surrounding towns. Major topics covered include: amusements, building, business, civic, confederacy, crime, disaster, education, agriculture, Grayson County, public utilites, history, indians, industries, lands, legal, military, minerals, political, organizations, religion, roads, statistics, Sherman, topography, transportation, veterans and water.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book form index typed on 8½x11 inch pages and divided into two sections: BIOGRAPHY and GENERAL SUBJECTS. In the biography section, the arrangement is alphabetical by last name. Entries consist of the headline, or brief description, followed by the date (mo-day-yr), page and column where the article appeared. In the general subject section, the arrangement is first by broad subject area (see Scope note) and then more-or-less in chronological order. Entries run down the right hand side of the page and consist of the headline or a brief description, followed by the date, page, and column. Some of the subject entries have a subheading or keywords in the left hand column which may help in locating a specific interest area within the broad subject area. However, these keywords are not always present and are not in alphabetical order.
