SCOPE OF INDEX:  A companion volume to the index to deaths in Whiteside County (SEE LATHROP REPORT 1227A). Marriages lists the names of participating parties, date of wedding and the officiating minister; occasionally the names of former homes, and the church in which the marriage occured are noted. The surrounding counties of Carroll, Lee, Henry, LaSalle, JoDavis, Bureau, and Rock Island (all in Illinois) and Clinton (in Iowa) are very prominent in this index, as many of their young people came from these counties into Whiteside to be married. Included in this index is an 1870 platt map of Clyde Township which shows the locations of all property in the township with the land-owners names printed on each farm. There is also an 1877 map of Whiteside County divided into townships and towns.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order by groom's surname followed by bride's surname. Entries consist of all appropriate information as described in the scope note (see above), plus the citation. The citation consists of the date (day-month-year) followed by the name of the newspaper.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 3000 marriages indexed in this 120 page book.
