AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the General Reference Service of the General Library at the University of California, Berkeley.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The index covers all events and activities occuring on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. There is selective coverage of other campuses. There is also extensive coverage of events and activities in the city of Berkeley and selective coverage of nearby cities and the county of Alameda. Material on events in other areas of the state is indexed only if it relates to the campus or city. Editorials and letters to the editor written by a faculty member or campus organization are included, as well as reviews of music, drama, dance and art exhibits. All sports coverage, including vital statistics, is indexed. Cartoons are not indexed.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  This is a 3x5 card file index with multiple entries typed on a card. Both subjects and personal names are interfiled in one alphabet. Entries consist of the headline or other brief phrase, a code for the newspaper's name, the day, month, year and page number.
SIZE OF INDEX:  The index contains about 700,500 entries, with about 2,500 added each year.
