SCOPE OF INDEX:  This is an index to the personal names of residents of North Carolina which appear in the early NC newspapers listed above, as well as other assorted issues currently in the "Cobb Loan" file housed in the North Carolina Collection at the Wilson Library. NOTE: Many entries are taken from papers published in the late 1700's. No entries are taken from papers published after 1800. However, a detailed list of exact dates indexed and exact cities of publication has not been provided.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order by personal name. Each entry consists of the name (last, first), an abbreviation (code) for the newspaper name, and the month, day, year, and page of the newspaper where this name appeared.
SIZE OF INDEX:  255 pages with an average 15 to 20 entries per page.
