AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this index exists. The index and corresponding newspapers are available for public use in the Montclair Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index cites articles of continuing interest about Montclair and its citizens. Information on Montclair business and business districts, Churches, Clubs and organizations, Community and government issues, Hospitals, Ordinances, and Schools is included. Biographical information (including honors, promotions, weddings, deaths, and pictures of lasting interest) are included in the index.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The index is compiled in handwritten form on 3x5 cards and then typed into book form. Entries for 1961-1965 have been typed onto 8½x11 inch pages, and 1966-1970 are currently being typed. The typed edition totals 950 pages. Entries for 1971-Current are still in card format and number some 27,000 cards. The index is divided into two sections, SUBJECTS and BIOGRAPHICAL. Within each section the entries are arranged in alphabetical order by subject or personal name. Entries consist of a brief description of the article followed by the day, month, year, and page on which the article appeared.
SIZE OF INDEX:  Approximately 65 entries per week are added to the file, which consists of about 59,800 entries in total.
