AVAILABILITY:  So far as the author knows, only two copies of this index exist. One copy and corresponding issues of the newspaper are available at the Mariott Library (University of Utah). A second copy should be available in the University of Washington archives, since the index was compiled as a part of the author's Master's Program at the U.of W.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  (from the author's preface) "Three large areas of interest dictated the nature of the index, in order to have maximum value. First of all, members of various organizations such as fraternities, clubs, and associations, make inquiries about early activities of their groups. Next, those who write of such activities as debating, theater, or athletics, are always interested in data in those fields. Last of all, material is sought concerning former students and faculty members who were on the campus years ago. The Chronicle also served as the literary magazine and many articles, poems and stories were included. These have been included under the name of the author, the title or first line, if no title was given. Exchanges from other college papers were included in the Chronicle, but no attempt has been made to include these items in the index."
FORMAT OF INDEX:  This is a book index with 8½x11 inch page size. A single alphabetical order is used which incorporates subjects, titles, authors, and other personal names. A table of abbreviations used in the index is included. Each entry statement is a brief phrase that summarizes the article and is followed by the volume number, issue number, month, day, year, page, and column where the article appeared.
SIZE OF INDEX:  478 pages
