SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index concentrates on local affairs and local citizens. Little, if any, national and state news is indexed. Included in the index: Deaths under the name of the deceased; Marriages under the names of bride and groom; Pictures (if pertinent); and Arrests under the name of the person and under the subject of the charge. Excluded from the index: Sports events; Traffic accidents; Births; Regular club meetings; National news; Coming events; Local news columns; Regularly appearing editorial columns; Editorials not pertinent to a local topic; Letters to the editor; Southwire news page; and Want ads.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  This is a typewritten book-form index on 8½x11 inch pages. All entries are arranged in a single alphabetical order. All churches are entered under RELIGION and then subdivided by denomination. Each entry consists of a brief description followed by the month, day, year, page, and column. Photos and editorials are noted.
SIZE OF INDEX:  The index averages 90 pages a year with 20-30 entries per page.
