AVAILABILITY:  This is a published index. Copies are available for purchase from the West Virginia Library Commission. Write for prices. The index is available for public use in the West Virginia University Library (West Virginia Collection, Colson Hall, Morgantown WV 26506) as well as the West Virginia Library Commission Reference Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This is an index strictly to state and local news. Articles on state and local government, education, politics, industry, and the economy are all indexed. Articles not indexed include those concerning specific crimes, accidents, sports, and social news. No personal names appear as subjects. Articles about prominent individuals are indexed under the appropriate subject category.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book form index typed in two columns on 8½x11 inch pages. The index is divided in two section. One section is the index to the GAZETTE. The second section is the index to the DAILY MAIL and GAZETTE-MAIL. Each section runs to about 100 pages. Each section is preceeded by a list of subject headings used in that section. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order by subject. Entries consist of the headline, month, day, year, and page.
