AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the White Plains Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The newspaper is indexed for items pertaining to White Plains or Westchester County, New York. Editorials and letters to the editor are not indexed, nor are routine announcements of events. In the case of events, only articles relating to the event itself are indexed. Sports events are not indexed except for championships or all-star teams. Birth and death notices are not indexed. Obituries are included only if they contain significant biographical detail. Reviews and non-news items are usually excluded. Crime news is indexed completely.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index with multiple entries typed on the cards. The index is divided into WHITE PLAINS and WESTCHESTER COUNTY sections, and there is a special section for BIOGRAPHY. Each entry consists of the month, dya, year, page, column, and headline (or brief description).
SIZE OF INDEX:  The index contains about 125,000 entries in total and is being added to at the rate of 5000 entries per year.
