AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Denver Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Both a personal and corporate name index to the Rocky Mountain News for the period 1859 to approximately 1882, although there may be some items dated as late as 1885. Presents the name exactly as it appeared in the paper, so that a name may appear several ways. There are also a limited number of subject headings used in the index. These include EDUCATION; separate subject divisions for STAGE LINES, CANALS, and DITCHES; TOLL & WAGON ROADS; INDIANS; and RAILROADS.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by name or subject. There is one entry per card. Each entry consists of the headline or a brief description of the article, followed by the citation. The citation includes an abbreviation for the newspaper name, the month, day, year, page, and sometimes the column.
SIZE OF INDEX:  A total of 252,000 cards (entries) in the index.
