FORMAT OF INDEX:  The index began as a 3x5 card file index in 1967. Plans to convert to computer printout were made in 1974. The actual date of conversion is not known, but the current index is a three-section computer printout: SUBJECTS, PERSONAL NAMES, and CORPORATIONS. Entries consist of the headline, byline, month, day, year, section, and page. The presence of a photo or other illustration, and the length of the article, is also noted.
