AVAILABILITY: There is only one copy of this index. It is a handwritten version on 3x5 paper slips and filed in a filing cabinet. The library is considering restricting public use of the slips of paper in order to preserve file integrity. Corresponding copies of the newspaper and the index are available to serious users at the Amos Memorial Public Library. |
SCOPE OF INDEX: The index is intended as an aid to local history and genealogy only. Emphasis is on Shelby and neighboring counties. Many references to local personal names, particularly marriages, births and deaths. Some attention given to local buildings and historical events. |
FORMAT OF INDEX: The index is comprised of 3x5 inch paper slips, handwritten in ink. Each slip contains a subject heading or personal name, plus one or more citations that furnish the month, day, year, page and column. Some subject headings take the form of a brief description of the article or articles cited. |
SIZE OF INDEX: An estimated 5,000 to 6,000 entries |
