SCOPE OF INDEX:  The Arcadia Tribune is indexed quite selectively, with emphasis on city government, local issues, local business and city history. The majority of entries are front page items covering such topics as city planning, elections, schools and taxes. Personal names are included in the case of awards received, retirement of city officials and works by local artists or authors. Obituaries are indexed only if substantial information is given about the individual's contribution to the community. Omitted are letters to the editor, editorials, club activities, sports events and entertainment news.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  This is a 3x5 card file index. There are about 3,000 cards from the beginning through 1973 and about 800 cards from 1974 to date. The earlier index (pre-1974) was compiled by a volunteer. There are several citations on each card. Shown are the headline, newspaper name, month, day, year and page number. Since 1974 the index has been compiled by the Reference Department. There is only one entry per card and the descriptions are often lengthy. The citation includes paper name, month, day, year, page and column.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 25 entries per month are added to the index.
