SCOPE OF INDEX:  The index is largely local in scope, limited to Bangor and the surrounding area. Does not include non-city editions of the newspaper. It is strong in biographical and business entries.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index. Personal names are filed together in a section entitled FAMILIES & INDIVIDUALS. Corporate business names are prefixed BUSINESS & INDUSTRY. There are also special sections entitled SPORTS, EDUCATION and LABOR UNIONS. A more specific subject heading or name is a subdivision of these broad headings. The entry consists of the headline or brief annotation. The citation includes name of paper, month, day, year, section and page.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 400 entries per month are added to the index.
