SCOPE OF INDEX:  Articles indexed must pertain to Bay City and Bay County only. Included are some editorials, music and art events and some Michigan news. Omitted are obituaries, sports, advertising and routine club activities.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The entries are arranged in chronological order under one or more broad subject headings. There are about 150 such headings per annual index. Extensive use of cross references guides the user to the correct subject area. Each entry consists of the headline, plus the month, day, page and column where the article will be found. The code "(PIC)" indicates that an illustration accompanies the article. Each index is typed on 8½x11-inch paper, reproduced in five copies and bound. Prior to typing, the index is kept on 3x5 cards, only one copy of which exists.
SIZE OF INDEX:  Estimated 25,000 entries per annual index.
