AVAILABILITY:  A published index. Issued eleven times per year (monthly, with a joint July-Aug issue) and cumulated annually. Foreign (non-Canadian) subscribers pay $175 per year. Canadian subscribers are charged on the "service basis."
SCOPE OF INDEX:  An author and subject index to 103 Canadian periodicals, fourteen of which are French. Entries are made under English subject headings regardless of the language, with cross references from French subject headings as required. CPI indexes materials in the humanities, social sciences, and science and technology with specific subject emphasis in the following fields: agriculture; busineess; community planning; current events; economics; fine arts; general science; geography (non-specialized); history; industry; international relations; librarianship; literature; political science and social welfare. This comprehensive coverage includes book reviews, editorials, features, financial news, general news briefs, government affairs, and articles of any length. Periodicals indexed are of a general, popular nature. Highly technical or specialized material is not indexed.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A printed index of 75-100 pages monthly, with a 500 page annual cumulation. Page size is 6½x9½ inches. Composition by phototypesetting, with bold subject headings and subheadings and italics for special emphasis. Each index is a single alphabetical arrangement including both subject headings and personal names. Each entry includes the author and title of the article beeing indexed. "IL" indicates an illustration accompanied the article and "BIBLIOG" indicates that a bibliography accompanies the article. The citation includes periodical name (abbreviated), month, day, year, volume, page,...etc. as appropriate.
SIZE OF INDEX:  From Oct 1976-Oct 1977 there were 10,163 items in the published indexes. However, this count includes main headings, subheadings, see and see also references, as well as entries.
