AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this index exists. It must be used in the reference area of the Charleston County Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Included in the index are local and state and historical items, personal biography of South Carolina people, and book reviews of local authors or South Carolina subjects. Omitted are advertisements, routine social and sports events, and obituaries (unless the person is very prominent).
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index in two sections. All entries for 1931-1959 are in one alphabetical file and the 1960-Current are in a second alphabetical file. Each card refers to only one article. The entry consists of the headline. The citation consists of the date (stamped in the upper right hand corner) and the section, page and column (written in the lower right hand corner). Most of the information on the card is handwritten. Accompanying photos and illustrations are noted.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 700 entries per month are added to the index.
