SCOPE OF INDEX:  The Denver Post Index is a selective index designed to provide access to information about events of significance in Colorado and, to a lesser degree, the surrounding states. With coverage beginning in 1963, the index includes three main categories of information: (1) items of lasting local intrest (2) feature articles on local history, institutions, and individuals and (3) specific information not elsewhere indexed. National wire service stories are indexeed only if they are concerned with Colorado or the region.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index that is made available on an annual basis in microfiche format. The card index is arranged alphabetically by subject, personal name, corporate name,... all in one alphabetical file. Each entry consists of the headline of the story, plus the month, day, year, page and column. There is usually more than one entry per subject heading card. All of the entries on a single card are from the same year, thus facilitating the production of the annual microfiche index.
SIZE OF INDEX:  An average of 185 entries per month are added to the current index.
