AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Confederation Centre Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  Indexes important events in the political, cultural, agricultural, fisheries, commercial, forestry, military, sports and communications fields and other newsworthy events taking place in the providence or directly affecting the providence. Includes achievements of Prince Edward Island people at home and abroad. Local church and association anniversaries and histories are noted. Obituary notices for prominent citizens of the province are indexed. Routine births, marriages and obituaries are not indexed. All three counties of the province are covered by the index. The GUARDIAN and the PATRIOT report extensively on activities in Queen's County, THE JOURNAL PIONEER in Prince County and EASTERN GRAPHIC in King's County.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index with both subjects and personal names in one alphabetical order. Through 1967 most of the entries (cards) are handwritten. Since 1973 the cards have been typed. Each card consists of one or more entries on the same subject or covering the same story in its continuation. Each entry consists of the headline or brief description of the article, plus the newspaper name, date (mo,dy,yr) and page number where the articles can be found. Accompanying photographs are noted.
SIZE OF INDEX:  Approximately 15,000 entries in total index.
