This report is extracted from the 1000 Section (Confirmed Newspaper Indexes) of the 1979-1980 Edition of LATHROP REPORT ON NEWSPAPER INDEXES: An illustrated guide to published and unpublished newspaper indexes in the United States and Canada.   Either a compiler, publisher or repository had confirmed the existance of this index and supplied information for the report. See the INTRODUCTION for the methodology used in compiling the LATHROP REPORT.

REPORT NO:  1071A Previous Report (1070E)  |  Next Report (1072A)
NEWSPAPERS INDEXED:
  • EASTON EXPRESS Easton PA 1930-Current
LOCATION or PUBLISHER: EASTON AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY
Sixth & Church Streets
Easton PA 18042
Telephone: (215) 258-2917
AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It was designed specifically for staff use and is not generally open to the public. It is located in the Marx History Room of the Easton Area Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index is actually an "item file" which is housed in two card catolog units. It is arranged alphabetically by subject. Most of the entries list news items related to the Easton and Northampton County area. Because so much of the information deals with the City of Easton, there are separate files for Easton headings such as Easton Educaton, Crime, Churches, etc.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by subject. Cards may be either handwritten or typed or both. There may be more than one entry per card. Each entry consists of a brief description of the article plus the citation (newspaper name, month, day, year and sometimes page). There may be more than one citation attached to a single descriptive phrase, as in the case of an obituary which appeared in more than one newspaper. The presence of an illustration is sometimes noted.
