SCOPE OF INDEX:  A classified name index in which the occupation and/or activity of each individual is specified, as well as the geographical location within the county (if included in the article).
FORMAT OF INDEX:  The on-going indexing is done by typing the information on 3x5 cards. This information includes the NAME, SUBJECT & CATEGORY of the activity of the person, DATE, PG & COL of the paper any any ADDITIONAL INFORMATION about the person or the article. The 3x5 cards are then put into machine readable form so that the final index may be printed out by a computer. The computer listing, on 8½x11 inch pages, consists of the SUBJECT & CATEGORY used as a "subject heading", followed by all of the personal names which were assigned to that subject. Beneath each name, is the geographical location of the person (if known). To the right of the name is the citation (pg-col-date) where the article appeared.
SIZE OF INDEX:  For the period 1836-1846, there were 21,685 cards or entries.
