AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Maine State Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The emphasis is on significant local and state news with the exception of legislative news which is clipped and filed at the Law and Legislature Research Library. The index does not include obituaries (unless a well-known figure), social news or sports news.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index in two parts, SUBJECTS and PERSONAL NAMES. The cards are arranged in alphabetical order by subject or name. Entries consist of the headline and the citation. The citation consists of the month, day, year, page and column. Photos are indicated by "pics".
SIZE OF INDEX:  Currently occupies 14 library file drawers.
