AVAILABILITY:  One copy of this book-form index is available for public use in the Michigan Historical Collections library. A second copy is available in the Michigan State Library (Lansing MI)
SCOPE OF INDEX:  "...in the main only local items have been indexed. Laws of Michigan, excerpts and essays from magazines and newspapers, stories, and editorials against masonry of no special interest have not been indexed. Local items from lands to the west and south (Jackson and Lenawee counties especially) for which the EMIGRANT was the outlet have been indexed. Particular attention has been given to personal names and to names of places; advertisements, owing to their special importance, have been fully indexed. Sub-indexes have not been used, but in their place is an appendix where the names of firms and professions have been brought together. Another appendix gives the locations and dates of the extant issues in the several depositories." (from the PREFACE).
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book-form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. Includes appendices for special information (see SCOPE note). The index is arranged in alphabetical order by subject and personal name, followed by a brief description fo the article and ending with the citation (Month-Day-Year).
