SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index follows in the main the plan of the Index to The Western Emigrant (see LATHROP REPORT 1131E). Only local items have been included. Two appendices contain a business directory and a check list of all extant issues of the Argus. NOTE: (See LATHROP REPORT 1131E for a more comprehensive scope note as it appeared in the PREFACE of the Index to The Western Emigrant).
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A book-form index typewritten on 8½x11 inch pages. Includes special appendices (see SCOPE note). The body of the index is arranged in alphabetical order by subject and personal name, followed by a brief description of the article and ending with the citation (mo-day-yr).
