AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used at the Nebraska State Historical Society. Photocopies of one or more cards will be made at prevailing rates.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This index is a name and subject index of articles and references appearing in several Nebraska territorial newspapers, 1854-1867. It is not an exhaustive index and will not contain all references to individuals or activities. It is however, a good aid to research in Nebraska territorial history.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index, handwritten. Both subjects and personal names are interfiled in the same alphabet. Entries consist of a sometimes lengthy description of the article, followed by the citation. The citation consists of the paper, the date (mo-dy-yr), the page and column.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 29,000 entries (29,000 cards) in the index.
