AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Nevada State Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  This is a selective index concentrating primarily on Nevada historical articles. This includes: Nevada history of place names; border information; biographical information on any past Nevada residents; business and industries; stories and incidents, etc. Current articles on the following types of information are indexed: Major state and local political issues; major legislative issue of Nevada; special feature biographical articles; gambling; prostitution; geographical and natural features of the state including any proposed alterations or use of those features. Omitted from the index are vital statistics (births or obituaries); sports; and social news. Only highlights of the Nevada biennial legislative sessions are selected. National news is excluded unless it pertains directly or exclusively to Nevada.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index in two sections: SUBJECTS and PERSONAL NAMES. Each card contains one entry. Each card consists of the subject heading or name at the top, followed by the headline, byline (author), citation, note for illustrations, note for clipping placed in Nevada Pamphlet file, and finally a sometimes lengthy annotation describing the contents of the article. The citation consists of the name of the paper, the month, day, year, section and page(s).
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 60 entries per month are added to the current index.
