AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used at the New Canaan Historical Society.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  An index to local news in New Canaan newspapers arranged by over 250 subject categories. Biographical information is arranged by personal name in a separate biographical index to newspapers and many other documents.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index, handwritten. Arranged in alphabetical order by subject. A group of entries begins with the year (underlined in the left hand margin). Thereafter, the entries are strung together, one after another in paragraph form. Each entry consists of the headline (or brief annotation) followed by the citation (month, day, page, & column).
