AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Portland Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  A subject guide to Maine state and local history, current Maine events, Maine people in the news, selected obituaries and editorials. The index does not include human interest articles, sports, vital statistics, routine social events, or advertising.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index with both subjects and personal names interfiled in the same alphabetical order. Only one entry per card. Entries consist of a brief abstract of the article, followed by the citation. The citation includes name of paper, month, day, year and page number. Accompanying photographs are noted.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 200-250 entries per month are added to the index.
