| SCOPE OF INDEX: The index includes news items, editorials, and articles dealing with anything of importance to and about Ssakatchewan agriculture, city affairs, economics, industries, mineral and natural resources, politics and government, social conditions and policies; Canadian agriculture in general; activities and statements of important items about Saskatchewan Members of Parliament and Senators, the Prime Minister and federal cabinet ministers; significant material about Canadian economic and social consitions and policies; and obituaries of notable Saskatchewan indiciduals. Coverage is most comprehensive for the Regina Leader-Post, and to a lesser degree for the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. Items noted in the Moose Jaw Times-Herald and the Prince Albert Daily Herald are chiefly about important local affairs or news and material not covered in the Regina or Saskatoon papers. Canadian Press items are noted in the Leader-Post only. The index excludes non-Saskatchewan material covered sufficiently by Canadian News Facts; art, book, concert, film and theatre reviews; social and sports events; and advertising. |
| FORMAT OF INDEX: The current index (work in progress) is kept on 3x5 cards. Once a sufficient volume of cards have been reached, the index is typed onto 8½x14 inch pages. Copies of these volumes are then made by mimeograph or xerography. The volumes published to date are: 1935-1949 (mimeo, 317 pgs); 1949-1954 (mimeo, 1158 pgs); 1955-1959 (mimeo, 759 pgs); 1960-1965 (xerox, 1162 pages); 1966-1969 (xerox, 890 pgs); and 1970-1973 (xerox, 613 pgs). Obituaries have been cumulated separately (1930-1965 and 1966-1976). Following each subject heading are the entries, which appear to be in random order (neither chronological nor alphabetical). Each entry consists of the headline or a brief annotation followed by the citation. The citation consists of a code for the newspaper, the month, day, year and page number. |
