SCOPE OF INDEX:  The emphasis in our indexing is on state and local news, and such national events as directly affect Florida. We index historical, biographical, governmental, scientific, and political news from Florida, with special emphasis on Pinellas County and St.Petersburg. Included are feature articles on residents, descriptive material on Florida places, hobbies and crafts as they apply to Florida, elections in the state, obituaries of people who have worked in Florida, Penellas County or St.Petersburg. Annual events and elections of officers are included. Routine social and sports events are not indexed. We include a number of Florida magazines in our index. Those entries are interfiled with the newspaper entries. Author, title, and subject cards for our state and local documents are also interfiled alphabetically with the index cards.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order, with author, title, subject and personal name cards interfiled in a single alphabet. Entries consist of a very brief description followed by the citation. The citation consists of a code for the paper, the date (mo/day/yr), page and section.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 4,000 entries per month (1500 cards) are added to the current index. The entire index fills 168 drawers in a standard card catalog.
