AVAILABILITY:  Only one copy of this card file index exists. It must be used in the Local History room of the Crawfordsville District Public Library.
SCOPE OF INDEX:  The index is primarily for genealogical and historical use. Since 1951-1958 and 1973 we have included all announcements of births, deaths, marriages, disolutions of marriages, and adoptions. Prior to that time, only the deaths and some marriages were indexed. We include some news items if they deal with the past history of the county. We do not include current business history, etc. The MONTGOMERY YOUR MAGAZINE is completely indexed by author, title, and subject.
FORMAT OF INDEX:  A 3x5 card file index arranged in alphabetical order by personal name (the few subjects are interfiled into the same alphabet). There is usually only one entry per card. The top line consists of the personal name, the type of item (e.g. BIRTH, MARRIAGE, ...) and an abbreviation for the newspaper. The secord line contains additional information, such as name of spouse or parents, and the citation. The citation includes the month, day, year, page, and column where the article appeared.
SIZE OF INDEX:  About 250 cards per month are added to the current index, which totals some 4800 cards to date.
